This is flippin excellent. It's very slow paced and definitely more of a mood piece than outright horror, but it reminds me a lot of The Boatman's Daughter (another unfairly maligned book) in its exploration of corrupt faith. This has been the perfect accompaniment to writing a book based on similar themes. A new top three King for me.

This is my SHIT. I go through phases with King, sometimes finding his massive back catalogue to be a bit chaotic in tone/quality. This nails familial discomfort and restructures the town of Maine (a mainstay of his works) to present something new and terrifying across its decades-long storyline. There's still enough for weird sex stuff in classic King fashion to detail this though
