I liked this short story! 4/5 stars. I can’t wait to start reading the second book (I’m going to read it right away!) I love this world.

….I can’t!!!!

I love how Sister Kettle and Sister Apple basically adopted Nona. I love how Nona hugged Kettle without hesitation (despite her saying that she was tainted) I think she’d have done it even if she’d still had her shadow. I can’t believe Yisht stole the shipheart, she really did it! Goddammit! All that talk about Hessa agin…I feel like crying!

It is interesting that the Durns had a shaman with them (I wonder if they all do), so he basically control the dead! (They’re zombies essentially). I’m curious to see how would Nona drive Keot out of her. It appears that by maiming herself and cutting her shadow out Nona is no longer able to see in the darkness but it also protects her against shadow-work which is neat! It is good to see Kettlr and Apple again!

“But I can use your body while you sleep and murder one of them tonight. Maybe the big girl … no, the blonde! One a night until the last one realises that it has to be you who’s doing it.” Well, new fear unlocked! She was seconds away from slicing Darla’s back into shreds, I wonder how she’ll keep that up. And how is going to not sleep? Will she ever get them out of her? I get why she won’t tell anyone.

But his reasoning make a lot of sense! If words got out war will come to the convent! I was right about that whatever was inside Raymel Tacsis had gone into Nona! I hate this! When Nona asked who they were/what is their name the answer was “Pro…The…” before deciding on the name Keot! Interesting. The idea that they could control her (in a sense) is really creepy and would complicate a lot of things!!!!

I considered reading Grey Sister first since this short story spoils the first two chapters of the second book but oh well! I don’t think I mind much. I’m glad that everyone is alive and well (for the most part!). Nona’s decision to let Clera go is really commendable! And it further illustrates how much friendship (and her friends) mean to her! Tarkax ruthlessly killing a wounded warrior was interesting!
