Blurb words that are immediate turn-offs: "mysterious child" "torn between" and "George R.R. Martin."

"Unputdownable" and "tour de force" are two of my blurb deterrents!

Mine mostly have to do with romance tropes. I translate "Slow burn" and "enemies-to-lovers" as "This book is a cliche".
Very true. Though I got to confess there are a few more authors, whose mention is even worse than a reference to GRRM. Sarah J Maas, or Cassandra Clare, for example, and yeah, a few others. But worse of all, the very worst, is any kind of reference to tiktok.
"lyrical writing." Translation: overwrought. "Gillian Flynn." Translation: a poorly done wannabe Gone Girl.
I hate cliched summaries. SO MANY of these summaries for throw-away psychological thrillers start off with some version of, "[Insert name] has it all--a lucrative career, handsome husband, beautiful home, and two adorable children."
You just KNOW the plot is going to be cliched and the characterization shallow. :[
Michelle wrote: "Or Robin Hobb! I learned not to trust the book if there is a blurb from her, the same as GRRM."Hadn't noticed a recurring 'no' for every one Hobb blurbs, but I think with Sanderson and Rothfuss I'm 0 for who-knows-how-many.
@Carol - I do know Martin blurbed The Dinosaur Lords. It of the 3.09 rating variety.
