Industrial workers of ww1 where held for eighteen months at ellis island because. Of the radeashal support for better conditions of laborers.
This is shown that the people where at a place with hard labor and then swiched to get better so they would not die.

German u-boats were hard to spot in the ocean. So the british developed an underwater microphone so that they could see the u-boats. The microphone ended up being effective because they sunk 108 more ubots in one year. They still use microphones to this day to help spot submarines.
