It is reassuring how this memoir gives an example of a schizophrenia patient who, in one way or another, managed to coexist with her condition (despite the unsettling details, especially when coupled with personal flashbacks). Yet, how many of those diagnosed with schizophrenia have access to the medical care the author was privileged to receive? This thought, in itself, evokes more melancholy than the narrative.
