i love that we don’t know his real name. It’s such a good use of that literary device to emphasize the cruelty of whitewashing/being stripped of identity

Jassmine I'm curious what you'll make of this one 🙈

Reading on Wheels @Jassmine it’s rlly good so far! Just the length and the fact that nothing rlly happened for the first half is kinda weird

Jassmine I'm glad you enjoyed it! I really wasn't happy how this book handled things 🙈

Reading on Wheels @Jassmine I agree. Like it held good conversations (anti colonialism and capitalism) but it forgot what it was trying to do w the characters and fully fumbled. Plus the beginning was all filler like hello

Jassmine Yeah, there were bits that I really liked (like the thing you pointed out earlier - we never learn Robin's name), but then there were other places that completely lacked nuance and... and also yes, so much filler and repeated sentiments instead of exploring things further. I really wanted to love this, but I ended up annoyed *sigh*

Reading on Wheels @Jassmine yess 100% like i liked it but i’m still heavily critical of it esp cuz it’s one of the most popular and accessible anti capitalism books

Jassmine Yeah, I think I would like it much better if it wasn't so hyped, like this book is exactly my niche category so I was REALLY excited for it, which... yeah, not great place to start for any book...

Reading on Wheels exactly! I’m the same. Like yes we need more of this but considering the lack of representation subpar is not where we need to start
