Sometimes, when you're bored stiff and wishing a book would just...fucking...END....a line like this pops up, and brightens your day:
"Guess I shouldn't have messed around with that kid's bone"

27 issues in, and a whopping 4 of them have been dream/hallucination issues.....Bruce Jones really wasted a lot of time with that tired trope.

The bullet-in-the-head arc, which was excellent until this point, just went off the rails and became a bizarre international "Everything you thought you knew is wrong!" spy story. Sadly, this comic that I had on a pedestal for four decades is just standard, and often SUB-standard, stuff.

The Belasco arc is nowhere near as long, or as good, as ten-year-old me remembers it being. The bullet-in-the-brain arc, however, holds up much better than the rest of the book, at least so far. The great Brent Anderson art, and the Zabu back-up stories (Illustrated by the legendary Gil Kane, and a personal unsung favorite of mine, Val Mayerik), are a joy to discover again after four decades.

A "Deep Throat" joke in a code-approved book from 1981!

This was absolute appointment reading at the ripe age of 10. Not holding up so well at 52. Very episodic and meandering so far (Eight issues in...), and the complete willingness of Ka-Zar and Shanna to cheat on each other at the drop of a loincloth is kind of gross. Onward....
