The problem with this is that there are too many barely-distinguishable characters. Even the two young women around whom a lot of the story centres, despite having completely different backgrounds, sound identical, and I'm constantly struggling to keep them straight. And I'm always having to refer to the (long) cast list at the front whenever the author drops in a name without any reminder of who it is.
