I like how a certain someone I might name (it starts with M) writes travel-with-a-chum quests. It's not that clear who the Bad Cop and the Good Cop are in this duo, and that's a plus!
Another thing that's not clear is which fairy tale this story is retelling. I pride myself in knowing the Grimms, but even I can't tell what blasted tale this one is. Yes, that's a plus too.

Well, that was one weird take on Rumple to close the anthology with, and I'm not sure what to make of that plot.
On the other hand, I finally met Katie's bro and was able to compare their styles. Will I comment on that in the review? Depends on what's for breakfast. :P
I will say, though, that Ben Hanna managed to do what only Mariella has: keep me guessing what blasted tale was being retold.

Well, it was bound to happen: a first bump in the road.
Funny how it happens, there's fairy tales I don't like but that get great retellings I like, and fairy tales I like but that get retellings I tend to dislike. I love Little Red Riding Hood, but not LRRH retellings & avoid them. This story reminds me of why.
Vampires/witches (? It's unclear). Wolf shapeshifters. No plot that follows either Perrault or Grimm.

Woohoo, I know what tale it is at last! I guessed right! I retain the Grimm Crown for life!
I had two candidates for what tale it was, and my 1st guess based on absolutely nothing but my gut feeling (who trusts a Hobbit's gut before breakfast anyway?) turned out to be the right one and not my 2nd guess.
The Grimm Crown is still mine, woohoo!

(Though I know you don't do retellings and have an alarming lack of appreciation for cinnamon rolls and brainy beefcakes... 😂)

Sigh.... How is this supposed to be helpful? :(
The only brainy beefcakes I enjoy are on screen. In books, I don't mind them, as long as they don't have stupid names like "Secret"! (What kinda name is that, I ask ya! Yeesh!)
But your trust in Beka and the fact that I DO read retellings tilt me towards the yes side. How far away is your review? I have bookmarked the ARC page for now, quite optimistically. ;)
*dying* I don't know if this is a good sign or a bad sign but I guess we'll find out XD But I feel like, to some extent, predictability is a good thing.

That call sign was given him by the princess! And the princess is hinted at being . . . well, not the most creative princess (I mean, she named the fractious gal that partners with our beefcake "Whisper" and she's nothing quiet). 🤣

I'll try and finish it as soon as possible because I got an ARC for my most anticipated book of the year yesterday that I'm dying to sink my teeth into.

I do enjoy it when I can't tell what tale it is, honest to goodness. 😄 It's like a puzzle to solve. I have my guesses already, and I'm likely going to miss the barn with my shot, but it's still fun.

Haha well have fun and when you're finished if you want me to I'll tell you. But I'm glad you're enjoying the characters at least from what it sounds like.
Mai wrote: "Oh wow, I thought you recognized them all!"Usually, I do. But memory doesn't always cooperate, and Mariella has a knack for picking up the least-known tales she can find. :)

Listen, I'm gonna take that as a compliment XD
Marquise wrote: "(I mean, she named the fractious gal that partners with our beefcake "Whisper" and she's nothing quiet)."Don't get me started on "Whisper"! That princess needed some shaking up.

Ooh! Looks like I am missing many updates. Thursday is good. I still have many anthologies to go before I can get to this, but at least I'll grab it on time if it gets upvoted by you.
I hope that "most anticipated ARC" matches your expectations! :)
Rosh [Semi-hiatus till mid-Sept] wrote: "Don't get me started on "Whisper"! That princess needed some shaking up."Does that mean you'd like a sequel too? Only acceptable replies are yes and oui and sí and ja. 😜

LOL, I was going to comment on the same, but didn't want to jinx it. :D
Rosh wrote: "LOL, I was going to comment on the same, but didn't want to jinx it. :D"I'm counting on the Goose Godmother's magic to counter the curse! ;)
