Just finished title story & unless something goes horribly awry in the latter half of this book, 5 stars clinched & going to try someone these Billy Boyle books. Even with something in this story that could be read as underestimating the capabilities & expertise of whores. Really gratifying & nicely-paced stories of betrayals, crafty defiance, & satisfying (& nearly-Phyrric) victories.

The bold graphic design & colors of the book drew me to it in library; checked out because mystery-shorts from an apparently popular writer I've not read so seems like a good intro opp. Read first story (THE HORSE CHESTNUT TREE) at bedtime & found it tight & satisfying: v enjoyable. Started 2nd story (THE TWO NEDS) - a bit harder for me to climb into its warfare, but optimistic it will be manageable & pay off soon.
