Out of all of Monson's books this was the one I was most nervous about. It's not perfect - there are 100% things that will make you cringe -- but it's reminding me so much of Olivia and Jai. The anti-colonialist critique in here is at some points deliciously scathing, and at others extremely clunky.

I remember thinking that this was a lot like a less good version of DUKE OF SHADOWS, with regard to its anti-colonial messages. This book also made me sad because towards the end, the characters become quite depressed, in a way that kind of felt like maybe it was a projection from the author.
