The downside of this plot being what it is, is that Mackenzie's mum gives me a deep sense of existential terror

This has a good setup immediately because I sympathise with Lola not wanting to go on some dumbass celebrity show, and with Mackenzie being worried about people prying. It sounds dumb at first blush but maybe it will slap.
