Mark asks Angel to Prom and she says yes and they start going on dates. During the week of prom, Angel starts to miss school and acts off and Katy stops bothering Mark. On prom night, Angel's sister Leah brings a date from college named Todd. Later that night, Brian gets broken up with and Mark finds out Angel was pregnant. At school, Mark finds out Katy did everything for Leah (Angel's Sister) because she likes him.

Mark asks Leah for advice since Katy keeps stalking him and she tells him to make it obvious he doesn't like her. On Saturday night, Mark hangs with Brian and his girlfriend and on the way, they see Katy and pick her up to humiliate him. They stop to get ice cream and Mark sees Angel and catches a ride with her to get away from Katy. Mark and Angel park there car by the softball field and flirt with each other.

When Mark is in detention, this girl named Angel Hayden came in to take a quiz and sat next to Mark and asked for the answers. They start to talk a little bit in class and Mark seems interested. On his way out, she gives him a ride home. Later on at track practice the crazy girl Katy joined just to see Mark. After practice, he tried to hide until she was gone but ran into her on his way out of school and ran away.

So far the main character is a kid named Mark and his mother has been dead for 2 years and his dad is in debt. He goes on runs a lot and sees this girl and one day gets a note from a secret admirer. He tries to figure out who it is and at lunch at school, he gets in trouble for making a mess when his bully Jefferson dumps peas on him. Mark soon finds out that the person who snitched on him was this girl named Katy.
