I'm going to give it a chance to come around, but the perpetuation of the lie while it severely harms the only person of color is so concerning. Add on top of that their main concern being that because of the lie they can't get married, not the fact that people are calling for their friend to be hanged for a crime he didn't commit, just because he's not white, makes me really not like the leads.

The fact that they didn't initially invite him to the wedding is also insane when he's supposed to be Jack's closest friend and the only family connection left from his first wife. There are so many microaggressions in this book perpetuated by the main couple who are supposed to be the "good" and "enlightened" people in this backwoods town.

Exactly what I feared. Why would any rational person of color get themselves involved with a crime they've already been accused of? When the investigation began, why would he not turn it over? Why didn't he confront her? This is just furthering the "Uncle Tom" archetype and it's disappointing. It very easily could've been left at him being framed.
