I’m using a random choice generator to choose the stories onwards so that I will be less overwhelmed! First Sorrow: 4/5!!

I enjoyed this one. There are many metaphors at play here, surely. Moving back and forth seems to indicate the elongation of suffering? or maybe the mundane act of living? The trapeze artist is always stuck in the same place. Yet losing his only “purpose” would threaten his very existence.

The bridge (CW: mentions of suicide):

Didn’t think that I would feel bad about a bridge. It’s spooky when inanimate things are conscious of their own existence. Movies like Toy Story, Beauty and the Beast, and more are fun and all, but dare you treat them the same if they are aware of their surroundings?

On the Tram:

I am unsure how I perceive this story fragment. It’s just about admiring strangers. Maybe there's more, but I can’t quite put my finger on it. Maybe it doesn’t have a meaning after all. Haha!

The Cares of A Family Man:

Who is Odradek? Or rather, what is Odradek? From the beginning of the story, their existence is said to be a mystery by the narrator. They’re depicted as insignificant but somehow linger around, like the scent of burning wood. Odradek is a tool that is deemed unimportant as it serves no purpose, but is it still not important if it's all that we can think about? Kafka boggles my mind.

I took the random generator for a spin again today, and surprisingly, it landed on the very last short story, called ‘On Parables’. It was too short to make a judgment. So there is no rating for this one either.

This is my take on this: words are nothing unless we give them meaning. Yet, words also have plenty of different meanings.

Excursion into the Mountain: this was incredibly short, merely a page long, so no rating for this one. It's like a prologue to an adventure book! Somehow, it reminded me of the hobbit! I would read about this person’s trip into the mountains for sure.

An Imperial Message:3/5
Not even a short story. I am confused, but I enjoyed it. I like how the “secret” needs to be relayed to different people to reach the intended recipient. If many people have heard it, does it still count as a secret? Also, how much of it will be credible? As we know, messages tend to change or get distorted, which leads to misunderstandings.

Before the law: 4/5
A mysterious parable that somehow reminds me of The Good Place. It explores the illusion of authority and unfairness in society and how those in power have control over those who don’t. Apparently, I read somewhere that readers will understand the story even more if they’ve read The Trial. I sadly haven’t. A good story, albeit short.
