Do like Kingsley as a companion, even for such a problematic time and subject. Probably the best you could get, writing and sympathy wize.

Slogging through forest and some not great thoughts on west african people...

Really reflects the (rascist and colonial) views of its time, all while struggling to give an accurate view of what she saw on her travels. I choose to take this as an object lesson of how blind we all our to our assumptions and biases, while really really enjoying the vivid way she captures the landscape she travels through. Makes for a multi-layered read so far.
