The most amazing story. Based on an actual strike in the 1880s that put poorly paid cowhands on a collision course with the cattle barons getting rich off their labor. Predictably, the barons bring in hired guns to bully & lynch & force the cowboys & their families to submit to their draconian rule. The cowboys are refusing to be intimidated & are fighting back. October is Roundup Month as well as Horror Month

If you’ve read Blood Meridian you’ve read a western. If you’ve read a romcom or a chick-lit with cowboys in it, those are westerns too. Westerns can be Old West or New West. Lonesome Dove is Old West, Kevin Costner’s Yellowstone is New West. It’s about as common a genre as romance, epic fantasy or horror. Kelton writes a good Old West story here (or duster) and every time I think it’s over, it isn’t.

October isn’t just Horror Month. In cattle country it’s Roundup Month. Time to bring herds down from their grazing in the high country. So here’s a Western. This is already starting out well because the man laying out the audio version makes me feel like I’m sitting at a campfire with a mug of Joe. And the stars at night shine big and bright.
