I found it very interesting how Scythe Curie sort of opened up to Citra by telling her what her name was when she was a little kid. It made me realize that Scythe Curie might be trying to connect and make Citra more comfortable about everything that is going around at that moment. "'When I was a little girl, they called me Susan. Suzy. Sue.'" (236) This showed that Curie is trying to open up to Citra.

When Citra punched Rowan in the face and was about to glean him, it showed the bravery she had in herself. "Rowan reached up to feel blood spilling from a huge gash that her ring had cut across his cheek. Then finally she raised the knife to glean him" (430). Although she didn't glean him in the end because of the immunity, she still raised the fortitude to stand her ground and put Rowan in his place.

I was very shocked when Citra had to glean her brother and to make it worse, she had to glean her brother with a knife. "Because bound to that chair, gagged, terrified, and tearful, was her brother, Ben" (408). This made Citra very scared and also left her in disbelief that she had to glean her own brother as a test.

It was very shocking when Rowan brought up the rumors about Scythe Faraday being killed by scythe, and then Scythe Goddard came to be a little bit too defensive. I don't think Rowan was trying to put the blame on Goddard possibly killing Faraday. "'What are you accusing me of, boy?'" (313). This shows that Scythe Goddard being oddly defensive was a strange factor to me.

I think it's very interesting that Scythe Faraday brings up that Citra and Rowan should both avoid Scythe Goddard. Scythe Faraday seemed very shocked that Rowan knew about what Scythe Goddard is known for, which is the master of mass gleanings. Faraday was very concerned. "Scythe Faraday's expression took a turn toward sour." (129) This makes me think that maybe something may have happened between the two scythes.

One important part in the book was when Rowan was getting offered to get immunity from the scythe but he didn't take it. "...glanced down at his ring, sitting so fat on his finger. 'I suppose now you'll ask me for immunity.' Rowan shook his head. 'I don't want anything from you.'"(26). This proves that Rowan did not want to be associated with the scythe after his friend got gleaned not too long before.
