Cause I don't see any deep philosophy here and the author could express the idea of "not meant for each other" without using that stereotype that these crazy Russians drink only vodka.

"He is polishing a samovar." The main character is sitting in his apartment in New York and is polishing the samovar. EVERYTHING IS ALL RIGHT! I am seriously waiting for brown bears to appear in this book because all the f*cking stereotypes about Russia seem to be in this book.
