I wanted to love this book, but I felt like some of the character moments were rushed. Particularly the romantic sub-plots. The society and magic system are very well thought out though, so the foundation is there for an excellent series. This book read more like set up that a cohesive story in its own right. I am going to read the second book when it comes out. I just hope he works on the characters a little more.
