I'm starting to delete people who don't interact and it's like a full time job. GR could facilitate this by creating a filter. But taking into account that many times not even my top friends appear in the feed, I think it's too much to ask of them.

Cara It's so time consuming, but it needs to be done, because my most interactive friends don't even show up on my feed. I have to physically go to their profiles one by one😴💗!!!!!!!!

Hi, Cara! 💕 I have exactly this same problem. That's why I decided to do this, but it's taking me so long 🤯

aeryn rose i’m doing the same thing it’s incredibly time consuming and tedious 🙄 then i have the problem of most people who are interactive not even show up on me feed it’s agitating!! 😐

Mary ♥ I feel you. I think I lost count at how many bugs there are and features that need to be implemented. 😭

Helga زن زندگی آزادی مرد میهن آبادی Goodreads has many things to answer for. I don't receive notifications and sometimes I don't see my friends' reviews on my feed and also the amount of fake accounts adding me is irritating.

message 6: by Marquise (new)

Marquise I've had to do that 3 times already, the first culling was huuuuge, deleted over 1,000 people who weren't interactive and only bloated my list and feed. Second and third time were easier. :)

Be careful, though, not everyone takes kindly to being booted even when you specify it's nothing personal.

Federico DN Being interactive with a few hundred is also a full time job so be mindful of what you wish for Mica xD

You're telling us! Now that I only have a handful of very active friends, I'm always running behind on replying to comments. Curses... :P

Hi, Aeryn! For this reason I decided to do this but it really takes too much energy. 😑

Hi, Mary! Yes, I think GR needs better programmers 😅

Hi, Helga! 😊 Yess, this is the reason I decided to eliminate people but it is being very exhausting. So I'll most likely give up and let it flow its way.

Hi, Marquise! 😊 It's taking me so long that I think I'm going to implement another alternative. Now, if someone I've never interacted with gets offended... I'd be completely incoherent.

Hi, Fede! You know, I think you're right. I'm going to have to continue getting into each profile of my top friends and that's it. I gave up.

¡Hola Dulce! Es increíble la cantidad de errores que maneja GR. Pero, sí, tal cual... Acá seguimos. No queda otra 😅

Mica, one way to do it is to go 1 letter per day. As in, Monday you pick the letter A and cull your friends under that letter, Tuesday you pick the letter B, and so on.

I did it that way. Yes, it took me long, but it was easier to do it this way, now my list is manageable and since then I've not let it grow back unmanageable again.

Mica Santos ⇢ Thanks for your advice, Marquise. 🥰 I'm going to implement it.

Marquise Good luck, Mica! Take it easy and you won't feel overwhelmed. :)

Chris Lee (away) I have sort of a work around that works for me. Why this is so complicated, I will never know. This is just a simple database format. It's either a small team, they do not want to implement a change that will cause a massive site-break fix, or the user base does not constitute an entire site retrofit. Who knows!?!

1. Click on the friends tab.
2. Click the 'sort by' box and click on 'last online'
3. Scroll to the very bottom and click on the last number (between the previous and next buttons)
4. This will show friends who have not been online in the past x-number of days.
5. Scroll back up the top, click on edit. This will populate X's next to the friends names. All you have to do then is start pressing the X's and confirming deletion.
6. Refresh the page and then just continue moving along from the highest number to the lowest. It is much faster than going to each profile individually.

Hope this helps!

Sophia I’ve been feeling like I need to do this too especially because I feel like I’m seeing only a few people in my feed that I don’t even really interact with or who don’t interact with me 🤷‍♀️

I was doing exactly this, Chris! But since it consumes a lot of time, I needed to make the claim somehow. Maybe someone from GR will fix something at some point? I'm hoping, delusional, but still hoping.

This is exactly what happens to me too, Sophia. I wish you luck, it takes a lot of time and energy the whole process of deleting.

Mai H. I feel like I have to search out the people whose reviews I want to see, this site is a hot mess

message 26: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Hanes I feel like I see the same ten people in my feed over and over. Now, I like these friends, but I would like to see other reviews too.

message 27: by Rowan (new)

Rowan MacDonald This sounds a good idea, Mica. I have been doing the same - but yes, it's time consuming! I never see top friends in my feed these days. The GR algorithm seems messed up, like many other aspects of the site 🙈

I don't know why GR works so badly. It's a shame because I would also like to interact with other friends.

This is what really catches my attention the most. Why have top friends if they are not going to appear in my feed? GR doesn't make sense.
