I intellectually get Scott Pilgrim being able to "understand" Gideon, though I can't adequately explain why those one panel flashbacks of the end of his previous relationships with Envy, Kim, Knives, and Ramona awakens this realization in Scott. I wonder if my readings were too broken up during this climax to put it all together. It's a nice ending to the series, but I recall when I started volume one loving it more.

A lot of blood in this finale. Same setting, same characters as the conclusion of the film adaption, but this is a different tone and focus. Metaphorical elements might be a little messy in magical realism and what exactly certain elements directly means (i.e. Ramona disappearing at the ends of her relationships beyond her just fleeing them when she reaches some breaking point).

I like the self-examining aspect about the titular character who has been trying to forget all these bad things he's done for the run of the comics as it turns out, but at the same time I don't think it hits as well as it could. This could be due to it referring to characters that were seen in untruthful flashbacks volumes ago (the reference to Kim's high school boyfriend is something I only vaguely recall).
