Quick note after the Eliot section. Leavis' fetish of moral instruction reads as patently absurd today, though you can't help but be jealous of the clarity it provides him as a reader. It leads him to a close reading of Daniel Deronda which serves as a defence of Eliot's tendency towards analysis which still feels remarkably vital. It is through her uncompromising willingness to think that she feels so deeply. Yes!
