UGH he kissed her right after her first period?! And then when he says she may be too young LETS her talk him out of it. I’m so grossed out. Like he knows better AND she relies on him…

These moments where we see how other people look at Kaya really kind of gross me out, there’s ways to make these interactions seem safe and there’s something about them that’s very off putting instead. And I get maybe we aren’t supposed to feel safe or she isn’t supposed to feel safe but like even moments that SHOULD feel good for her don’t.

Uggggh ok yeah an age gap of 4 or 5 years isn’t bad- BUT HEN BOTH CHARACTERS ARE ADULTS!! Great Tates back but the book emphasized he’s at least 18 and recognized she’s 13 or 14 and he can see the womanhood coming into her body.

Ok not loving the way I feel like this book may end up utilizing the Magical Negro troupe. Like really the ONLY people who want to help this girl are a black man and his fat (which is emphasized) wife?? Took me out of it so fast, especially in juxtaposition to the pretty (again EMPHASIZED) white preachers wife who doesn’t want her daughter even touching Kaya.
