Surprise ending. The Renaissance was too early and driven by the desire of African Americans to brand themselves, culturally, to Africa while overlooking the generations that contributed to their American culture through enslavement. Great book. Lots of detail. Amazing chapters of Minstrelsy and life behind our masks.
