One surprising part in the book was when Katniss and Peeta were going to kill themselves. For example, Katniss and Peeta grab a handful of berries and count down. Just as they were about to eat the berries, Claudius Templesmith yells stop. "The berries have just passed my lips when the trumpets begin to blare. The frantic voice of Claudius T shouts above them "Stop!" (345). This proves that this part was shocking.

One part that was sad was when Rue was dying and asked Katniss to sing for her. For example, when Rue was dying from getting stabbed, she asked Katniss to sing a song for her and Katniss did as Rue was slowly dying. "Rue's eyes flutter shut... My throat releases the tears and they slide down my cheeks. But I have to finish the song for her." (235). This proves this part of the book was depresssing.

One shocking part was when Katniss finds out Peeta is helping the careers. For example, when Katniss overhears the tributes discussing if they should kill Peeta, but they come to the decision that he should tag along. "Why don't we just kill him now and get it over with? Let him tag along. What's the harm?" (152). This proves that this part of the book was very surprising.

One conflict was when Haymitch made Katniss and Peeta never leave each other's side. For example before training starts, Haymitch starts giving them advice for training. The last thing he mentions is that they have to spend every second together. "One last thing, I want you by each other's side every minute." (92). This starts problems since Peeta and Katniss hate each other. This proves that there is a problem.

One part that was very shocking was when Katniss volunteered to take Prim's spot for the hunger games. For example, when they were at The Reaping, and Effie Trinket picked Primrose Everdeen's name, Katniss made her way through the crowd and volunteered to play the games instead. "I push her behind me. I volunteer! I gasp. I volunteer as a tribute!"(22). This proves that this part of the book was very surprising.
