I am having trouble suspending my disbelief for this one. The laws in England at the time would say that she was his property, as well as her business and all of her money, after marriage. No marriage contract, no matter how cleverly drawn up, would be able to overrule that. If it was that easy for women to retain property and power in a marriage back, then they would’ve all done it.

They agree that talking isn’t what they do best and have more sex. I’m over here screaming at them to talk to each other. FRUSTRATING.

The author got the level of manly pride right here. Men being offended, whenever a woman has any kind of position or authority over them or questions their behaviour in anyway. I just feel like this book has a lot of modern sensibilities and it doesn’t really fit with the timeline. If this book was set later in history, I might’ve enjoyed it more.

What’s up with the dudes in my books having sex with their wives while they are asleep?

That special kind of madness when you’re entirely frustrated by a book yet you keep reading.

Ok someone with more knowledge correct me, but ladies maids didn’t wash their mistresses bodies (including private areas), did they? I think the author just wanted to write a voyeuristic sapphic scene here at the expense of accuracy.

She compares him to a house cat and I have to agree. He’s more pet than husband.

When am I going to start liking this absolute dud of a hero?

I like this book, but I also hate this book. Could be worse, I could be bored.

Hmm I don’t love a plain Jane trope. Ugly hero, yes please. Plain heroine, meh.
