One shocking part was when Alby sacrificed himself to the Grievers. Alby was frightened by his old life and didn't want to go back, so he ended himself. In the text it says, "Two more grievers broke from the pack and swarmed over Alby, piling on top of each other, snapping and cutting at the boy" (333). This shows that Alby chose to sacrifice himself in order to help the other Gladers finish the maze.

One disturbing part was when the Grievers made an eerie sound that was heard throughout the Glade. The night that the doors didn’t close made the Grievers able to access the Glade if they wanted to. In the text it says, “Thomas thought he heard the first eerie moan of the Grievers, coming from somewhere deep in the Maze. The night had just begun”(247). The foreshadowing shows that something vital is going to happen.

One important part was when Thomas promised Chuck that he would get him back to his home with his family. Thomas was frustrated at the fact that someone stole Chuck away from his family. In the text it says, "Fuming with an intense desire to keep his promise. 'I swear, Chuck,' he whispered to no one. 'I swear I'll get you back home.'" This is important because it supports the fact that gladers have families.

One confusing part was when the Glade seemed to be an island afloat in the sky. For example, after Thomas and Minho had gotten rid of all 4 of the grievers, Thomas looked into what looked like an endless abyss. In the text it says, "It seemed as if the Maze was perched on a structure several miles above the ground" (139). In my opinion, this proves that the maze was built in a simulation far away from the real world.

One confusing part was when Minho came back exhausted from running and stated that he saw a dead Griever. Minho came back looking completely drained from running even though he came back early. He then stated that he saw a dead Griever. In the text it states, "'I found a dead one.' 'Huh?' Alby asked. 'A dead what?' Minho smiled. 'A dead Griever'" (84). In my opinion, I think the griever's death is related to Thomas.

One shocking part was when Thomas walked up the stairs of the shack and was terrified at the sight of the sick boy. Thomas didn't listen to anyone restricting him going up; furthermore, traumatizing himself anyways. In the text it says, "A twisted, pale figure writhing in agony, chest bare and hideous" (22). This shows that something nauseating happened to the "sick" boy and Thomas is soon to find out.
