30% is a respectable place to give up. I have a 1/3 rule - I can ditch it if I'm still not enjoying it by then.

Yep, I don’t like quitting, but I actually recently read a book on the art. I finished the quitting book but life it too short if you are not engaged and enjoying a book. Having said that the recent Ian McEwan book took me about 50% to get into but he’s earned special treatment from me!
