'Self-abandoned, relaxed, and effortless, I seemed to have laid me down in the dried-up bed of a great river; I heard a flood loosened in remote mountains, and felt the torrent come: to rise I had no will, to flee I had no strength. I lay faint; longing to be dead.'

i'm literally going to explode because i absolutely adore this book but i'm so mad that victorian mindset has to come and ruin everything like ... jane and mr rochester have SO much potential WHY did you have to go and make it weird by putting such a huge age gap between them ... it's always either incest or a huge age gap with these victorian novels i can't do this anymore
