I wish I'd read this book much sooner. One minute I'd cringe at Anne's annoying displays of teenage histrionics and the next find myself in complete awe of her ability to take the most deplorable conditions in stride and continue to hope & plan for the future. Most of us in today's US are spoiled and pampered beyond belief. I'm also drawn to the incredible courage of the outside helpers who risked their own lives.
