I understand what the correlation ration does and when I should use it and why we use it. I even kind of sort of understand how to get it. I do not, for the life of me, understand where it came from and how it arose, and why it does the things that we say it does.

Here we go, a statistical concept that I completely get: correlation coefficient. I understand when to use it, how to use it, why to use it. Why can't all of the explanations be so thorough?

This isn't a bad review of my statistics classes, but honestly, Khan academy does it better. It's free too.

This book just makes me remember my fundamental question about statistics, I understand how to do these things, I don't know why we use them, and I don't know when to use them. This is the fundamental failure of statistics education, it doesn't teach practical uses of it.

Yes, but why. Why do we care what a standard score is and a deviation score is? What practical purpose do they serve?

I was hoping this book would answer that fundamental question for me, but it hasn't.
