I just got an idea. Since the deluminator didn’t lead Ron back to them until Hermione said Ron’s name, if Hermione had just said Ron’s name early instead of avoiding talking about him, couldn’t Ron have gone back to them sooner??

He could have yeah. Ron came back immediately after he left, but Hermione and Harry had already disapparated to another location… He tried several times to come back and it took him weeks to understand the deluminator :’(

Rumour has it that in the first draft, Hermione referred to Ron as 'the keeper'. Ron responded by angrily yelling, 'what's Ron with you?' Hermione also called him 'ickle Ronniekins'.
