I haven’t been able to put this down. Babel has many of the best elements of Harry Potter: outsiders attending an elite magic school, making friends. But instead of racism and misogyny discussed metaphorically, it is addressed head on interwoven with real world history. The heaviness is offset by genuine love of learning about language, delicious descriptions of food, and navigating college.
