"It's really difficult when you've lived your whole life trying to fit into an idea of who you are supposed to be even when that idea rejects the best parts of who you are. It's ok to walk away from beliefs that no longer serve you. It takes a long time to retrain your brain,.."

It is pretty fucked how Billy casually enters and exits their (Heather and kids) lives. "With the ease of someone who never has their steps questioned."

These damn Christmas cards...
"I secretly wished I could've Photoshopped Billy, not only into our christmas card photos but into my life. I didn't want the current version of who he was, it was too difficult, too incompatible, too dismissive, but I wanted to stay married and I wanted to grow old with the father of my children."
...every christian cults gotta have a christmas card.

Bad Missionary and Bad Wife tell of Heathers life after graduation from BYU and finding her footing as a young adult, devoting her life to faith and following the guideline. In trying to uphold Mormon standards, she struggles with her ambitions and successes and so does her husband with his. Choice is not an option. She actually sounded like a fine missionary tho, but had to keep in theme with chapter titles I guess.

Just finished P1. Bad Daughter. This initial section jumps around her life as a young person from childhood to college graduation. Heather was raised as a wealthy mormon in CO and UT. Her upbringing reminds me of my own within the Assembly of God religious subculture. Tight knit, understood values, the pressures of eternity, is both beneficial and harmful. Entire realms of life are constructed around mormon belief.
