Starting to get concrete examples of how the field is not respected. Good book but really needs to tighten up the writing.

I'd almost forgotten how circular feminist books can be in their reasoning. It took 23 pages of repetitions and vague research on who is saying Librarians aren't a respected profession because run by women to say maybe we are judging it by the wrong criteria. This isn't the first book, essay, or lecture I've heard or read on profession and I still can't tell you who thinks Librarians aren't respected.

Ok, I keep seeing this come up in my classes and research but have yet to get a satisfying answer: what criteria are these people using to determine that Librarians aren't seen as important or respected as professionals by the public? The public doesn't always know that you have to have an MLIS to formally be a librarian, but, simply saying I work at a library gets me respect and treated as highly knowledgeable.

Hopefully this will have some interesting things to say pertaining to my actual research paper topic. If not, well it will at least prove an interesting read.
