Kidd's designs for Several Ellroy books used photos by Mell Kilpatrick, "the unsung Weegee of 1950s and '60s southern California." Kilpatrick was also (not mentioned in this book) the inventor of the dashboard camera.

It has been said that most design monographs are adventures in narcissism and self-absorption. That is certainly the case here...
