Snow killing that boy was pretty brutal and Dr. Gaul having snow go in to the arena was crazy. It’s almost like she tries to justify what she is doing and wants him to see how inhuman these people become once there are no laws. Maybe to stop him from going the same path as Sejanus?

Unfortunate that Jessup got rabies from that rat bite.

The kiss. Poor Lucy gray. The compact to help her was a nice touch, but to think of her as more like somebody who belongs in the Capitol because the other people are “less than” and barbaric is ridiculous. I think the dean is actually a good person and tries to help but Cornelius is too busy being egotistical to notice.

Lots of mixed feelings when it comes to Snow. Every once in a while he seems human, but then he reverts back to his natural, ambitious to a fault and selfish behind all reason, self.

Mixed feelings about snow. He had a rough life, but he seems pretty selfish over all which makes sense given his character. Also very ambitious, but I think a lot of that comes from his grandmother putting so much pressure on him. Scene with Arachne was brutal, though she seemed to deserve it. Dr. Gaul is pretty vicious and likes to trick and play games, which makes sense for a game maker, I suppose.

I like it so far. Definitely feels darker than the first Hunger Games book somehow. The bit about the maid’s leg in particular was a bit shocking. I definitely find myself sympathizing with Snow, despite what he becomes later. I also really enjoy this Lucy character.
