rereading this for the first time in two years and it’s hitting in a very different way at age 19 than it did at age 17. i’m therese’s age now. i get her loneliness, her naive voyeurism, her bursting-at-the-seams desire to be validated, her secret romanticism. at 17 i thought i was more mature than therese, having skipped her process of self-discovery via the internet. at 19, i understand that i know nothing.
