I'm almost agreeing with the author in his criticism of Freud and psychoanalysis, but he doesn't have sound logic in his arguments

That's just stupid. I'll sometimes analyze book characters for fun, but I know it's not real. A lot goes into diagnoses and that's its own training.

But like the books with characters that have DID and how the author crafts the characterization is interesting material

Another annoying thing is when people start a major in psychology and then start diagnosing their friends and families with mental illnesses. I knew a woman who diagnosed her step son with schizophrenia, her husband with autism (she was starting a grad program)

A more amusing recent example is the use of profanity. Traditionally, foul language has been regarded as a sign of poor manners. Since the psychiatric enlightenment, it is no doubt also a symptom of the passive-aggressive personality, and perhaps of other yet unnamed mental maladies.

This is crazy outdated. I'm for a good, solid critique of psychotherapy, but it isn't going to be this. I guessed with the word 'myth' in the title

Just no. And that 'therapy speak' can be used by men to gaslight.

Then I love the Gottmans, so glad I was exposed to them young, they have sound advice, but omg I would go crazy if I was in a relationship with either of them -- the way they speak to each other is so stilted with 'therapy speak'
