Childhood friends who are six years apart is not realistic. They wouldn’t have romped and played with that large of an age gap. Did an 11 year old play with a 5 year old? Seems unlikely, especially with different genders.

This is much better than the last one, even though it’s the exact same tropes.

Kristina is starting
Book two in an anthology I got as an arc but am reviewing each separately because I want the reading challenge credit 🙃
All of these novellas are out so I guess the author is compiling them for an additional money grab.

ChellBell That’s very unlikely. My niece is 11 (turning 12 in January) and a neighbor’s daughter who is in Kindergarten… niece only “plays” with the younger one like she’s practicing to be a babysitter

Kristina Yes, and back in those times a duke’s heir would be away at boarding school when she was old enough to romp about the estate. She might have been his friend’s pesky younger sister but they would not have been good friends who fought and played and explored. Perhaps if the girl was older she may have looked after the boy in those sexist days but a young boy would have wanted nothing to do with a girl six years younger. The author should have made it two years max and just let the heroine be older. I think she wanted an appropriate age gap and a childhood friends trope but it doesn’t work.

ChellBell Oof well luckily this was a short read… as for the author, I don’t think I’d like her and I just noticed I have 2 of her books from NG that I need to read

Kristina She’s very tropey and unoriginal. I don’t know if she writes any full lengths books but I’m doing an arc for an anthology with four of her Christmas novellas and they are basically the same book over and over. After this I don’t think I will pick up any of hers again.

Sarah Mac Yeah, that’s the gap between me & my oldest cousin—we Nintendo’d together, rolled our eyes at parents not ordering enough pizza, & played in the snow or croquet/water balloons in the summer, or even helped weed my aunt’s garden. But we didn’t romp like childhood buddies or anything.

Sonia My nephew is 4 years older than my daughter and he would play with her a lot when she was younger
Hmmm. Maybe 6 years isn’t too bad
My niece who’s 6 years older would play with her
But they’re also kind of forced too since they’re family 🤣

Sarah Mac I think play-with-family rules are different. So you don’t like ___? Too bad! No other people under 30, so deal with it. Lol.
