Dreher’s diagnosis in the first two chapters rings true. His history of Western degeneracy shares much with Gillespie’s “The Theological Origins of Modernity” and with McCarthy’s “The Crisis in Philosophy”. These narratives share the everything-is-downhill-from-St. Thomas structure. I’m not sure this is wrong, but The Distributist has me doubting the effectiveness of such “bibliographies”.
