New rule for self: must only add a new book to read when a book has been read from to-read list. Should be simple.

Good idea! My to-read list is out of control so I'm now only allowing myself to add books if I delete a few first:)

@ Rowena, I just went over to your page to check out the number of books on your to-read list. Now that - is daunting. I can see why you'd need to be a bit ruthless. I, too, would like to read some of the books I'm adding these days before I'm a pensioner!@Marita, no, it is not simple at all. That phrase was dripping with irony. I'm easily tempted. But as the rate by which I'm adding books (and I've got un-added ones on my shelves at home, too) is nowhere near to matching the rate by which I read them, it won't even be a realistic list. Must be more ruthless!
Hi Helle,I had many more on my list, I've been deleting like crazy! I've been on this site for 6 years and I realized my reading tastes have changed a lot. Also, it's so easy to add a book after reading a wonderful review but I'm trying to be realistic about what I really want to read:)
Hah! Easy to say not so easy to do, Helle. " I'm adding books (and I've got un-added ones on my shelves at home, too) is nowhere near to matching the rate by which I read them, it won't even be a realistic list. Must be more ruthless!"
Same dilemma here, but I am afraid I lack diligence. There is some hope in what Rowena says though. Maybe the books I added in 2013 are no longer appealing...Hmmmm, worth trying.
Hi Rowena and Dolors,But Exactly! I 'fear' the books I added this week, for instance, may not be what I want to read by the time that I get to them (unless I re-shuffle my to-read list, which I do regularly), and I may not even remember what review prompted me to add it. However, letting only the classics etc stay on the list is playing it too safe. Dilemma indeed!
