Still confused

I'm having a lot of trouble with this executioner's assistant masochism metaphor. I just don't understand it.

This chapter is a little difficult to get through. Abuse and misuse of "science", poor logic/techniques, all to justify the racism and sexism that was already being practiced.

No idea how this ended up on my To Read list but I'm enjoying it so far. I did have to pull up a dictionary to help.
