It strikes me as I read a rather lopsided commentary on the battle, with some serious attitude issues, that for years I’ve simply accepted a strictly Anglophile interpretation of Waterloo and Napoleon in general. It’s not the whole truth then, is it? It’s like asking settlers to give an unprejudiced account of Sitting Bull and the Lakota Sioux who they were fighting tooth and nail. It’s an impossibility.

It’s not as if I don’t know anything about Waterloo. My Masters thesis dealt with this period in history as I studied the fight to abolish the Atlantic Slave Trade which occurred simultaneously with events like Trafalgar and Waterloo. But this is a welcome rafraîchissant!

We have reached The Hundred Days. Napoleon has escaped Elba and is marching on Paris. Everywhere he goes he is welcomed like a hero!
