Each time I start LOTR, I am unable, unwilling, to leave the Shire, to leave on the journey, the hard road full of dangers and trials. I’d rather turn my face back to the Shire, to the comforts, the garden, the food and drink. But, I’ve pressed on and come to Tom Bombadil. Here, I find comfort, welcome, peace. Like visiting a friend, no longer having to worry or fear but able to breathe, rest and be refreshed.
