old journal - i completely missed the point of this story when i read it the first time and now i understand it all too well.

on the trapeze artist : the incessant want for more is ultimately what makes you unhappy. once you start thinking that way, nothing is ever enough. perhaps this is an allegory for capitalism and the extreme excesses of the 2nd half of the industrial revolution

these stories r really bleak and strange but also wonderful. uncomfy in a mundane way
