Swift makes me want to be a diarist. His relationship with Sir William Temple deserves further investigation. One could write a good historical novel about it.

He seems to simultaneously think of him as a mostly one-dimensional man, and yet seeks his continual support and affection. Further, the effect he had on him is very clear in his early writings, but I don't know if this was done with self-image in mind or not
