I’m perplexed. I found this book at a vintage book store; it was first published in 1962. I have always thought my public school education had many holes, knowledge of African history being one of the biggest, so I grabbed it, intrigued. I’ve only just begun the book, and I believe it to be using terminology steeped in ideological racism, scientific racism. Does it still have credibility? Do I continue reading?

Does the book’s obvious biases make it an inadequate source of information on African history? It feels like the answer is yes. I’m still in the origin of our species part of history, so maybe the rest of the book is different? More of the same? We shall see. Or maybe not.
