The last time I read any story in Marathi was in my grade 10 Marathi textbook, almost three decades ago.
Reading this collection is a personal challenge, coming from a long-standing wish of reading a book in the language of the state I reside in. Plus, I always wanted to read humorist V.P. Kale's works in his native language. Translation kills the original wit.
Wish me luck! There's no audiobook for assistance!

Sounds like quite the challenge. Best of luck, Rosh! Don’t be afraid to try a translating app should you need it ;)
Best of luck, Rosh! I can read Marathi, too, but I find it very hard to read it after a hard day. Usually I'll read a couple of lines and then switch to an English book 😂 not ideal, I know but I'm working on it. It's so much better that you are reading it in Marathi instead of a translation... The nuances of a language are often lost in translation.

Thanks so much for the enthusiastic wishes, B! I started with the first story, and oh boy! :D Needed all my concentration for sure. Marathi is my fourth language, so I am not so fluent in it, but I am able to grasp the story quite well. The speed is totally snail-like, though. :D

Won't be able to use a translating app as I am reading this one on my phone. My Kindle isn't showing the Marathi alphabet properly. :/ But my Google Marathi-English feature is being utilised to the fullest! :D

I used to find my school textbooks tedious. This also might be because of the type of stories. Witty ones are easier to concentrate on. I doubt I'll ever read a Marathi book again as it is taking ages. But I do want to complete this one sincerely. :D
Srivalli wrote: "Good luck, Rosh. Find a human audiobook if possible."Thanks, Sri! Haha, I wish! But there's no free Marathi speaker around. Anyway, it is not that bad. Just that I can't read at my usual speed. This little book will take ages to be done with. :)

Reading in another language is always a challenge but is so very rewarding. By slowing down and really getting to grips with and taking time for the vocabulary and structure, it makes the reading process incredibly intensive. My guess is, you will remember scenes from this book vividly in 10 years time because of the effort and focus you put into reading. Enjoy!! 😃
(And if you need more encouragement, just ask me. I'm always happy to cheerlead someone attempting foreign language improvement.)
